T-JAY'S PERSONAL WEBSITE

My place on the Internet

In the style of the type of sites I designed back in the late 90's early 2000's!

OK - This is going to be answered on all three of my 'retro' sites. But here is the FULL reason why. I am completely self taught in IT and web design. When I was at school, web design courses where simply not an option - possibly because there was no such thing as the World Wide Web!!!

So - I am in the dilemma in that although I have over 20 years experience with the Internet and the World Wide Web, along with designing sites since the early days - I have 'nothing' to show for it, other than what's on Archive.org. Problem with the Wayback Machine - there are elements that are missing, and because of time and the fact this is all digital. I have no copies left.

This is my creative solution to the problem. And that is have three of my sites, in the style of what I used at the time. So, my Portfolio site is set in the very early days of design, using just notepad++. This one however has to be the most retro - as I have had to install Windows XP to run Dreamweaver MX 2004 (doing this in tables/images et al - a text editor wasn't going to cut it!). The 'only' issue is that ALL elements on this site - including rollover effects, thumbnails, the buttons AND the image sizes - as well as the links to open up another page - all done manually. I honestly up until designing this site, have forgotten how much work went into creating a site from scratch!

These days of Drupal, WordPress etc, it is now, create a template, upload images, download a plugin for a gallery - and the Content Management Suite does it all for you! Trust me - you never has it So Good!
